SHORT HISTORY

The district of Chitral is located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, in the western Himalayas. It has a rich history that dates back to ancient times.The earliest known inhabitants of the region were the Dardic peoples, who are thought to have migrated to the area from Central Asia. The region has also been influenced by various empires and dynasties throughout its history, including the Achaemenids, Greeks, Mauryans, Kushans, and the Mughals.During the colonial period, Chitral was a princely state under the British Raj. It was ruled by the Mehtar of Chitral, a hereditary title held by the Khans of Chitral. The Mehtar was responsible for the administration of the state and had the authority to negotiate treaties with foreign powers.After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, Chitral became a part of the country. It was initially a part of the Hazara division but was later made into a separate district.Today, Chitral is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. It is home to a variety of ethnic groups, including the Kalash, Pashtuns, and Gujars, each with their own unique cultures and traditions. The district is also home to several important historical sites, including the Chitral Fort, the Tirich Mir peak, and the Chitral Gol National Park.
